Eraser 6.0.7

Protect yourself, tamper with the evidence

The Internet, the last bastion of free speech and dank memes, has been under constant attack by the international clique of chosenites. Recently, (circa 2016) the authority for Internet domain names has switched hands from the US Government towards an entity controlled by international non-governmental 'stakeholders.' I wonder who these stakeholders might be, or rather what. In any case, if your Internet activity is limited to posting photos of your food and playing video games, then there's nothing to worry. However, if you're writing for the Daily Stormer or wrong-think that it's okay to be white, then this is a cause for concern.

Eraser

The privacy of Internet communication is essential, but if that fails, your hard drive should make up for it in court. As you probably know, it is not enough to 'delete' a computer file. When you delete data, it doesn't just magically disappear. It most likely survives, except that your OS is now ignoring it, and there's a risk of being recovered unless overwritten. To lower the chance that a laboratory analysis would find incriminating evidence, you should use some auxiliary method of getting rid of your sensitive information. Eraser offers such options like secure deletion and movement of files, as well as clearing of a drive's 'free space.'

With Eraser, you can set up scheduled tasks for secure deletion operations. Of course, you can also trigger tasks on demand. The type of task can be either to delete one or more files, to move a file or folder, or to erase unallocated space, partition, or drive. Of course, Eraser does not delete the logical partition itself.

Eraser

With every task you can select the method that you want to use. This one rests entirely on preference. Eraser can employ one of thirteen available means, including "US DoD 5220.22", which uses seven passes to scramble the data. There's also the Gutmann method of 35 passes. Contrary to what you might think, the number of passes is not necessarily an efficiency indicator. What's safe to say is that conventional data recovery programs will not be able to reconstruct what's missing.

Eraser can be integrated into Windows Explorer. However, from the right-click menu you can only erase or move using the default method.

Eraser also features a method for enabling plausible deniability if the need arises. You can set up folders and files to be copied in place of the erased data. This protective approach is to give the impression that you did not remove anything from that area of the drive in the near past. Of course, it's up to the examiner to decide if that is or not the case.

Features

  • Deletes files and folders using several methods
  • Can target and delete 'free' space
  • Secure movement of files
  • Scheduled deletion
  • Can copy mock files over of deleted data to rig evidence
  • Shell integration

Final Thoughts

Eraser might not be secure enough to help you slip pass Lady Justice but can undoubtedly fool off prying individuals such as office colleagues or your parents. I recommend using it as a general practice if you share the computer with others in any way.
